James J. Chao, MD, FACS is a board certified plastic surgeon and the CEO of Oasis MD Lifestyle Healthcare. Dr. Chao is a fellowship trained hand and microvascular surgeon.
Four years ago, Dr. Chao left his tenured position as Clinical Professor of Surgery at UCSD and started Peak Healthcare Alliance (PHA) and WeShareMD in response to the changing healthcare landscape. Along with co-founder George Scopetta, he currently has amalgamated multiple companies and established strategic partnerships in to a vertically integrated healthcare delivery platform in the medical office co-sharing space. WeShareMD is currently the largest network of medical co-working offices in the country and recently closed a $150M round with private equity. These 2 entities are specifically designed to leverage the economics of today’s healthcare environment into a sustainable premium consumer driven brand of lifestyle medicine for the future.
Dr. Chao received his undergraduate education at Stanford University where he graduated with honors. He then traveled eastward on an academic scholarship and attended NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Chao went on to complete his General Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery training at the world-renowned Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at NYU Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital Center. Dr. Chao was in the inaugural class of the physician executive MBA healthcare management program at Rady’s School of Business at UCSD.
Dr. Chao is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of all of the major plastic surgery societies (ASPS, ASAPS, AAPS, ASRM, and PSRC). He is recognized for his clinical excellence by his role as the plastic and hand surgeon for the San Diego Chargers NFL Football team and ESPN X Games where he is often seen on the sidelines tending to their injuries. He has appeared on The Doctor’s Show and is routinely quoted in the San Diego Union Tribune and other regional and national publications.
