Michael Derk is a senior managing director of capital markets of Institutional Property Advisors and of Marcus & Millichap Capital Corp. Mr. Derk joined the firm in December 2002 and currently works in the Newport Beach office. He is responsible for securing commercial debt and equity financing for an array of property types including multifamily, office and industrial, retail, seniors housing and hospitality. Mr. Derk is well connected with national, regional and local funding sources including, but not limited to, agency lenders (e.g. Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac), commercial banks, CMBS lenders, life insurance companies, private and public funds and bridge lenders.
Mr. Derk has more than 15 years of commercial real estate finance experience and has closed more than $1 billion in transactions. He specializes in structuring multifamily, retail and industrial products as well as other special purpose properties. During his career with MMCC, Mr. Derk has been honored with the firm’s National Achievement Award every year since 2005. He was also featured in Real Estate Southern California magazine’s “40 Under 40” in 2004 and 2010. Mr. Derk has consistently been a top producer of MMCC for the past 10 years.
Mr. Derk is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance. He also earned a master’s degree in real estate from the University of California, Los Angeles and studied abroad at Oxford University in England. Mr. Derk holds a sales license from the California Bureau of Real Estate and is a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA).
