Partner | US Central Deputy Real Estate, Hospitality & Construction Leader
Rick serves as EY’s US Central Region Deputy Real Estate, Hospitality & Construction (RHC) Leader serving large real estate owners/developers, institutional investors and corporate occupiers worldwide. Previously, Rick co-led EY-Japan’s RHC practice where he served EY-Japan’s largest inbound and outbound real estate investors. Rick also oversaw the RHC Sector’s Asia-Pacific leadership network. Prior to that, he served as EY’s Global Markets Leader for the RHC practice. Rick has over 30 years of real estate industry experience which encompasses a broad range of assignments, including valuation, market analysis, financial restructuring, litigation support, and transaction due diligence. He focuses on all property types, especially large scale, complex projects and portfolios.
Throughout his career, Rick has been involved in many significant real estate engagements, which include: managing one of the largest retail bankruptcy cases in the US Northeastern District; serving as the attorney’s expert consultant for a high-profile whistle-blower case involving a large global pension fund advisor; and conducting a demand study for the first luxury high-rise residential complex in downtown Nashville. Rick also served as a national consultant to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD and served as the financial advisor for the sale of Illinois’ second largest homebuilder, a prominent Chicago hotel and one of the largest retail bankruptcy liquidations in American history.
Rick has been a frequent guest lecturer at DePaul University, has given numerous key-note presentations on current and emerging global real estate trends at top industry events, has been interviewed by CNBC, Real Estate Forum Magazine, America’s Commercial Real Estate Radio Show, GlobeSt., and other prominent industry media, and has helped produce numerous thought-leading industry publications for EY.
Education and affiliations
Rick graduated with a Master of Science degree in Accountancy, with Distinction and a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce, with Honors, from DePaul University in Chicago. He is a Certified Public Accountant in Illinois and belongs to the Illinois Society of Certified Public Accountants and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is a licensed Managing Real Estate Broker in Illinois, serves as a Strategic Advisor to DePaul University’s Real Estate Center and the Chicago Metropolitan Planning Council and is an active member of the the National Association of Realtors and the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT). Rick also is a Governor at the Urban Land Institute (ULI).
