Zale Taklamakan’s Local Grown Salads (LGS) is a concept for an indoor farm that grows greens, herbs and vegetables using modular construction. LGS farms are approximately 15,000 square feet in size and fabricated almost entirely off-site.
Obsolete industrial buildings within Opportunity Zones are ideally suited for the LGS business model. Each farm is estimated to cost $2.2 million, require 15 to 20 workers, and start producing income after 150 days.
In 1997, Zale won the North York Entrepreneur of the Year award, and for the past several years he has mentored new entrepreneurs through government-sponsored programs.
Zale has a degree in Computer Science from the University of Western Ontario.
